COUNSELLING
What we do:
We offer help to people who may feel they are not coping, or are unhappy with
their lives. You may be:
Counselling can help when you wish to make changes in your life. It provides an opportunity to make sense of your individual circumstances and identify the choices for change. It also provides the individual with support during the process of change and can help to build better coping mechanisms for the future.
Referrals:
We accept referrals from statutory and voluntary agencies or you can refer yourself. You can contact the Centre by phone or letter or call in person.
The service is offered irrespective of age, gender, sexual orientation, religion or ethnic origin.
Due to a reduction in funding, we are now in a position where we need to ask for regular donations from those clients who are in a position to afford it.
Our waiting list is currently open
How we work:
At the first appointment your counsellor will carry out an assessment to ensure
that the counselling being offered could be of use to you. You will have the
opportunity to ask any questions and decide whether you wish to continue. There
may be a few clients who would benefit from the services offered by other
agencies, in which case your counsellor will help you to access the appropriate
help.
Including the assessment you will be offered 12 sessions. These take place once a week usually at the same time and each session
lasts 50 minutes. If for any reason your counsellor is unable to keep an
appointment, every effort will be made to let you know, and we ask that likewise
you let us know if you cannot attend.
Regular attendance is important to the work of counselling and we would
encourage you to come every week even if at times it feels difficult to do so.
